What is the Athens for Free Guide?

One thing that always tickles me about tourism today is just how easy it is for all of us to fall into the 'follow the leader' trap.
Everywhere I go, I see throngs of tourists bee-lining to the usual hotspots. But what they often don't realize is that just around the corner lies something truly unique and amazing—if only they knew where to look.
And that's exactly what I want for you!
I want to show you where to find those hidden gems when you're here.
And YES, I'll admit it—I want to share a piece of my everyday life with you. Why not? It’s the little everyday moments that often make the biggest impact.
A Little History Break!
Ladies, don’t we just hate it when we get sidelined in history?
I mean, sure great men did a lot of great things back in Ancient Greece, but it feels a bit odd that we don’t hear as often about the amazing women of that era.
For instance, does the name Aspasia ring any bells?
Well, you’ll definitely have heard of the man she advised—and who she is even rumored to have written speeches for: Socrates himself.
Now, Athens is old.
We’re talking more than 5,000 years of civilization old. For context, when people in Athens were developing democratic principles, establishing the foundations of Western philosophy, and constructing architectural wonders like the Parthenon, many other parts of the world were still predominantly in tribal structures or early city-state forms without centralized governments. 🤯
I bet diving deeper into the stories of the great women who helped shape all this rich history will make you feel even more connected to this place.
